January marks the 50th year for Mountz and a golden anniversary. To be in business 50 years is no small feat. A study in Bloomberg Business Week magazine claims that one – third of all Fortune 500 companies active in 1970 had vanished by 1983. In the fast paced world of Silicon Valley, flush with IPO’s angel investing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate existence is measured on an entirely different scale than longevity. The average lifespan of a company listed in the S&P 500 index of leading US companies has decreased by more than 50 years in the last century, from 67 years in the 1920s to just 15 years today, according to Professor Richard Foster from Yale University.
The point is that 50 years is unique – and demands a celebration. On June 12 & 13, 2015 Mountz will commemorate our half-century with two unique festivities, a gathering of all employees at the center of each event.
On June 12th, Mountz will hold a 50th year Open House event that will include employees past and present and their guests, customers and select vendors and other VIP’s. On June 13th, a 50 Year Gala Party for employees and their significant others is planned.
To honor 50 years a weekly social media post will provide a glimpse of Mountz’s corporate history, including major milestones and interesting facts. Our monthly employee newsletter One Voice will share similar information.
To kick this all off, let me share with you the origin of Mountz, Inc. Not unlike many companies Mountz was started in a spare bedroom of the home of its founders Don and Lorna Mountz. Located in Cupertino, CA this residential site predated UPS’s current pick up system, Fed Ex and Apple Computer; many famous brands we all use on a daily basis.

Congratulations to Don and Lorna Mountz for their visionary enterprise and perseverance, and to Brad and Myra for following up their steps.
It is exciting being a part of this important milestone! Proud to be part of it!
