Thanksgiving is truly and uniquely an American holiday, celebrated with football, family reunions and a smorgasbord of food derived from every part of our country. The variety of turkey preparations and stuffing recipes could fill several cookbooks, maybe libraries and it is likely that Google has already cataloged these for us under easy to search key words.
The richness of this holiday is countered only by the plight of poverty and hunger we find in every community across our great nation and beyond.
As I grow older, I think more than ever about those that suffer. The unsheltered and truly underprivileged or those just down and out on luck enter my thoughts most every day. It’s easy to turn our back on those in need. Thanksgiving is a great opportunity to think about how lucky we are and to reach across the table to those that are truly desperate. To give thanks for what we have and to share with someone who will greatly appreciate it is a wonderful experience. It’s an experience I have come to cherish.
At Mountz, it is a tradition to give every employee a turkey. I know it sounds like a strange or funny custom, but we never want a Mountz family to go without the opportunity of a big meal at Thanksgiving. We hope our employees will celebrate with their family and loved ones or donate their turkey to someone in need if plans do not include a big meal or celebration. Further, our team of employees provides additional turkeys to local food banks, churches and homeless shelters. I beam with pride when our team members show up with a pickup load of turkeys to drop off to one of the many deserving charities we support. Turkey Day is famous at Mountz and all of our employees are thankful of the gesture and our commitment to support good charities that feed people in need.
Mountz also has program that rewards employees for GOING THE EXTRA MILE (GEM) for customers and our community. GEM’S are provided to any employee who donates 2 hours of personal service to a charitable organization in need of volunteers. They are also given to employees who earn honest praise from our customers for exceeding their expectation.
While I’m proud of our employees for their involvement and support of our community my point in sharing this is not to boast or publicize our philanthropy. It should be expected that we give back to others in need. I also feel it is important to understand that Mountz is more than just a torque and fastening control specialist. We are made up of wonderful, caring people who strive to improve our product, our service and our community – in fact, our world.
Simply, I wish to give thanks to those that make Mountz a successful business with nearly 50 years under our belt. Thank you to our employees, our vendors and most important – our customers; without you, there is no us!
Our purpose at Mountz is to Make The World Safer Through Accuracy and Precision. While that has nothing to do with turkeys or Thanksgiving, it’s a philosophy that has allowed us to share our good fortune with others. And for that, I’m also thankful.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Brad Mountz
President & CEO
Thank you, Brad. Good stuff. We all at I & M wish you and the crew only the very best.
Thanks for taking the time out, and sharing what Thanksgiving means to you and your employees and your way of showing thanks for your employees, Brad Mountz! There’s not many company owners, or company’s left like this in America. Happy Holidays to you and all your employees! Best regards, John Worrel
You and your team have a great Thanksgiving. I look forward to doing business with you.
Thanks to you for putting this season and indeed our “purpose” in life into perspective, Brad. I watch the volunteers feeding people here in So Cal, and sometimes find myself judging those in line for a free meal. “Hey, he looks young and strong – how come he’s not doing “something” to earn a living”, or “she hasn’t missed many meals, has she?”. The volunteers here and the management and staff at Mountz may at times have the same feelings, but good works are a reward for the do-er, not just the recipient. Without knowing the “back-story” for these people, there is only one thought and one comment that is appropriate – “have a wonderful Holiday and enjoy the meal”. Your comments reminded me of that, and for that I’m grateful.
Mr. Mountz,
I have used your products and I respect the Precision and Expertise your employees take to make your superior products.
I am now equally impressed with your Genuine Care for People who are less fortunate. This truly what God intended, and you, your employees, and your company will be blessed, and prosper for your efforts.
Sure their may be some “Scammers” who take advantage of the situation (there ALWAYS HAS BEEN,and ALWAYS WILL BE) but we cannot allow the Scammers to prevent us from doing Good for the TRULY NEEDY. Let God judge the Scammers as he judges us who do his work.
Beautifully worded and thoughtful.
