The YF-Series is a new line of ESD brushless electric torque screwdrivers from Mountz, Inc. With the increasing need for sophisticated fastening torque tools by manufacturers, the YF-Series power tools offer various programmable features to meet the evolving demands from the manufacturing industry. Mountz is offering various YF electric screwdriver models covering a torque range from 6.1 inch-pounds up to 78.1 inch-pounds.
Listening to the feedback from customers and meeting the constant changes and advancements in the manufacturing environment, the YF-Series provides multiple options for engineers to program the brushless screwdriver to meet their own assembly requirements. These reliable torque screwdrivers feature a programmable speed, angle and auto reverse option. Along with a selectable “Soft Start” operating mode and a “Multi-Hit” mode. Mountz brushless electric torque screwdrivers are designed for precision torque control and have become the state-of-the-art in the assembly industry.
Adjustable RPM Setting:
Adding the adjustable speed control provides manufacturers with the versatility to quickly change the tool settings as production projects change. In this recovering economy, manufacturers are looking to save time by improving the efficiency of their production space and methods. Manufacturers are seeking versatile assembly tools that are equipped to handle quick changes in the production environment. The new adjustable speed control setting for the YF-Series screwdriver allows the operator to adjust the RPM directly on the controller.
Soft Start Mode Setting:
The selectable “Soft Start” mode is for applications that require the power tool to slowly ramp-up to its operating speed, perfect for plastic or sensitive electronic applications. There are 3 different time settings for the Soft Start mode, which are (0.2, 0.4 & 0.6 seconds).
Multi-Hit Mode Setting:
The Multi-Hit mode is for very soft joint applications. When an electric screwdriver runs down a fastener and the tool clutches off once the preset torque is achieved, there can be some joint relaxation that can occur. The Multi-Hit mode allows the YF electric screwdriver to perform multiple hits to stabilize the torque for any joint relaxation that may occur.
Joint relaxation is caused by the surface of part(s) embedding or by “soft parts” such as gaskets, plastics or spongy material, which collapses under the clamping force created in a torque condition. For hard joint applications there is no need to use the Multi-Hit mode.
Brushless Electric Screwdriver Technology
Designed for high production environments, the YF brushless screwdriver features a high performance brushless motor design that provides durability and reduces the standard maintenance costs for an electric screwdriver. Additionally, costly mechanical micro switches have been eliminated with the YF-Series in favor of non-contact magnetic sensors.
In addition to lower maintenance costs, the YF tool is ESD certified, ensuring less than 1 Ohm at the bit tip. ESD management in power tools ensures product quality, cost savings and a reduction in overall ESD failures. Manufacturing engineers involved with microelectronic products are aware of the importance of controlling Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) failures. Lapses in preventing the occurrence of electrostatic discharge can affect production yields, manufacturing costs, product quality, product reliability, reputation and profitability.
Static damage to electronic components can be realized as catastrophic or latent failures. Catastrophic failures are easier to detect and resolve. With this type of failure the part is “dead” and will not function. It may be costly to repair but is easy to manage. With latent failures the problem is much worse as the failure may not be detected in testing but is a “time bomb” waiting to happen. Since this product will get into the field and cause intermittent problems or failure in the field, it can be a much more costly problem.
Controlling torque is essential for companies to ensure their product’s quality, safety and reliability isn’t compromised. The failure of a three-cent fastener that isn’t properly tightened can lead to catastrophic or latent failures. Fasteners that are insufficiently torqued can vibrate loose and excessive torque can strip threaded fasteners. Using a quality brushless electric screwdriver is increasingly important for many companies to ensure that proper torque is being applied and maintains gauge requirements associated with the ISO 9001 Quality Standard.
