Finding a small torque wrench for those delicate low torque applications can be challenging. The MMTB is a miniature torque wrench that provides accurate repeatability and durability for most industrial assembly applications. The versatile wrench, from Mountz Inc., is available with different head configuration options, like an open-end, box, flare, hex key or ratchet head. The MMTB models are designed to have one permanent head style attached to it, a fixed head. Manufacturers have the ability to select a head style and size that meets their torque application.
Mountz also offers a unique grip head option for the MMTB wrench. The wrench head can be used for round knurled or non-knurled nut(s) where gripping to tighten might damage the surface. Typically, for odd sizes and with no flats for a wrench head to grip like a cable connector. Also, it can be used to tighten certain delicate tube shapes that might collapse under pressure, like a catheter or a syringe. The grip head is typically custom made, therefore an engineer should contact Mountz to further discuss the application and may need to provide a sample piece.
When the MMTB torque wrench achieves torque, the head breaks-over signaling to the operator to stop applying torque to the fastener or bolt. A break-over torque wrench is designed to limit the amount of torque applied for a fastening application. Upon reaching the preset torque value, the tool “breaks” at a specific point along the tool’s shaft – usually at a pivot point near the tool’s head. The unique break-over mechanism provides an operator ample time to react once the target torque is reached and to stop applying any additional force to the fastener. Break-over wrenches improve control of the bolting process by reducing the risk of both over and under-tightening.
The slim MMTB torque wrench is a preset torque tool that offers a tamper-proof internal torque adjustment setting. There is no external adjustment scale, so the wrench must be preset using a torque tester. Small with a lightweight aluminum handle, the MMTB wrench is ideal for applications with limited space. Designed and manufactured to meet or exceed the accuracy and repeatability requirements of ISO6789: 2003, Mountz offers various MMTB wrench models covering a torque range of 8 inch-ounce up to 80 inch-ounces.
Using a quality torque wrench makes a safer world through accuracy and precision. Controlling torque is essential for companies to ensure their product’s quality, safety and reliability isn’t compromised. The failure of a three-cent fastener that isn’t properly tightened can lead to catastrophic or latent failures. Fasteners that are insufficiently fastened can vibrate loose and excessive torque can strip threaded fasteners.
