Hand Tools for Automotive
Much of the automotive industry’s repair work is done with hand tools. However, that doesn’t mean the work is imprecise or basic—in fact, when properly used, hand tools can deliver torque with the same accuracy as air or electric tools. Our line of hand torque tools will ensure proper torque control in all your repairs, thus improving the quality of your shop.
Click Wrenches:
Click wrenches are the most basic and most popular torque tool we sell. When an operator reaches the appropriate amount of torque, the wrench will emit an audible click, telling the operator it’s time to stop. Capable of delivering high levels of torque with reasonable accuracy, torque wrenches are an effective catchall torque tool for most tasks. However, there is an inherent risk of over-torquing when using click wrenches, rendering them less effective for critical fasteners.
Break-Over Wrenches:
Break-over wrenches mechanically limit the amount of torque an operator can apply. When the set torque value is reached, the tool will deflect 20-90 degrees, preventing any additional torque from being delivered to the fastener. This level of specificity allows break-over wrenches to be used for more critical fasteners than click wrenches.
Cam-Over Wrenches:
Similar to break-over wrenches, cam-over wrenches mechanically limit the amount of torque an operator can deliver. Cam-over wrenches accomplish this by disengaging, or “slipping,” when the proper torque is reached. Not only are they equally effective for critical fasteners as break-over wrenches, their slip action requires less space than a break-over wrench does. Cam-over wrenches are particularly useful for automotive mechanics, who often apply torque in tight spaces.
Power Tools for Automotive
Hand tools will take you a long way, but for certain jobs, nothing beats the speed and power of a pneumatic or electric tool. What might take three minutes of wrenching by hand can often be accomplished in three seconds using an air tool. Of course, all that speed and power goes to waste if it’s not properly controlled to deliver the exact amount of torque you need. Continuous Drive Pneumatic Tools:
Available in inline, right angle, and pistol grip configurations, our pneumatic screwdrivers/nutrunners are capable of delivering up to 156 ft.lbs of force. The clutch mechanisms of each version of our air tools disengage automatically when torque is reached, eliminating the possibility of over-torquing. While the continuous drive action can generate a strong reaction, requiring your operator to take care during use, it also delivers more precise torque amounts than can be achieved with pulse tools. For high-torque, high-speed, high-precision applications, continuous drive pneumatic tools are hard to top.
Pulse Tools:
Similar to impact drivers, pulse tools use compressed air to generate torque in a series of bursts, each only lasting milliseconds. This action allows pulse tools to create significant amounts of torque with little or no reaction on the operator, allowing for continual use without ergonomic or safety precautions. However, the pulse action of the tool is slightly less precise than a continuous drive pneumatic tool, so these tools are less effective for fasteners with very narrow torque tolerances.
